Cheif Matthews School Donation

Gaw Tlagée Old Massett, Haida Gwaii, October 2026 — At HaiCo and Taan Forest, our children are at the heart of our future. Supporting opportunities for young people to learn, explore, and connect with the land is one of the many ways we can help strengthen our communities for generations to come.

This year, Taan Forest was pleased to source and donate some rain suits for Chief Matthews School's students to support their Learning on the Land activities and Haida Explorations program. It took several months to find the right sizes and quantities to help ensure students of all ages could be outfitted and ready for outdoor learning. As a special touch, custom zipper pulls featuring the Taan Forest logo were added to make the rain gear easier for students to use independently.

On September 24, 2026, members of the HaiCo and Taan team were honoured to deliver the rain gear to Principal Michael Hart and Ms. Burton. We know that spending time on the land is an important part of learning, and having the right gear helps ensure students can participate comfortably and safely throughout the year.

We were especially pleased to welcome Ms. Burton's class to HaiCo's recent Open House October 5, 2026 in Gaw Tlagée Old Massett, where students had the opportunity to meet members of the HaiCo Board and the HaiCo CEO. Seeing the excitement and curiosity of our young people is always inspiring.

We would like to say háw’aa to Chief Matthews School for the important work they do every day. It was truly our pleasure to support this initiative, and we look forward to seeing the students continue their learning journeys on the land, rain or shine.
