Didguusii Mill Tour

Haida Gwaii, October 13, 2026 — HaiCo/Taan Forest representatives had a great day October 7, 2026 with Coast Funds, representatives from Coastal First Nations, and the CHN Heritage and Natural Resources Department.

HaiCo and Taan Forest were pleased to share the journey that led to the development of the Didguusii Mill and to express our gratitude to the Council of the Haida Nation for providing HaiCo/Taan Forest with seed funding through its Coast Funds Economic Development allocation. That early support helped lay the foundation for the work being done today.

During the visit, we shared the history of HaiCo and Taan Forest’s efforts to expand value-added opportunities on Xaaydáa Gwáay │Xaaaydaa Gwaay.yaay Haida Gwaii. We then toured the Didguusii Mill and Taan Forest spoke about the careful, measured approach being taken to grow the value-added sector. We are proud that the mill can support cultural wood needs, not only by storing wood, but also by processing it to Haida Laas specifications. Whether for totem poles, posts and beams, smokehouses, canoes, or other community uses, this work helps ensure valuable cedar remains available for cultural and practical purposes. Kris May was also on hand to share information about North Pacific’s sawmill operations and explain how they differ from, yet complement, Taan Forest’s work.

Visitors enjoyed seeing the range of products being created by North Pacific Timber Corporation from laminated wood products to cedar incense.

We greatly enjoyed the visit and appreciated the opportunity to share our story. We wish everyone success in their meetings and safe travels home. Háw'aa│hawaa thank you.
