The following summarizes both the existing and forward-looking employment positions at HaiCo and its Group of Companies:

EXISTING AND RECRUITMENT
  • Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee management of Pacific Integrated Commercial Fishing Initiative (PICFI) license and quota for CHN

    • Advise HaiCo management on new business development opportunities including the acquisition of license and quota

    • Develop business plans for new development opportunities

    • Collaborate with CHN/SHN to promote Haida fishers to utilize the license and quota and to build capacity for Haida fishers

    • Oversee contract management with the license and quota user including collection of payments

    • Oversee staff recruitment, compensation, training, retention, and performance management

    • Create succession plan for Acting/Interim Manager position

    • Support development of annual operating budget

    • Implement effective systems and develop short-term and long-term action plans to improve administration and management of PICFI licenses

    • Oversee Canadian Food Inspection Agency reporting and that the fish plant is compliant and following standard operating procedures

    • Implement effective communications with HaiCo management

    • Source and secure funding opportunities for plant maintenance and upgrades, health and safety requirements, and business development opportunities

    • Liaise with government and industry as needed

    Training, Education, and Experience

    • 10+ years of demonstrated leadership experience in commercial fishing and seafood industry

    • Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Key Responsibilities

    • Support the Acting Manager with the administration and management of Pacific Integrated Commercial Fishing Initiative (PICFI) licenses and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) reporting and requirements

    • Support the development of business plans and action plans

    • Assist in sourcing and securing funding opportunities for plant maintenance and upgrades, health and safety requirements, and business development opportunities

    Training, Education, and Experience

    • 5+ years of administrative experience

    • Experience working in fishing and seafood industry is considered an asset

  • Recruitment efforts will be underway following Fisheries Resources Reconciliation Agreement (FRRA) implementation and when more processing opportunities are on Haida Gwaii

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee processing staff recruitment, training, retention, and performance management

    • Provide mentorship and guidance to staff to support their success and recommend training opportunities as needed

    • Instill a positive and respectful working environment that follows all health and safety guidelines

    • Scheduling staff shifts and approving any needed overtime hours

    • Perform daily operations for processing and production

    • Oversee inventory, production, plant floor layout, equipment, and logistics, and select suppliers

    • Order supplies to ensure that production can continue without interruption

    • Implement Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) industry standards and customer specifications for products and packaging of all products and develop and maintain industry relationships

    • Establish, document, and implement production goals and operational policies and procedures

    • Maintain, develop, and implement Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Preventative Control Plan including all standard operating procedures

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with fishers, and schedule, arrange, and oversee product delivery

    • Maintain, develop, and implement health and safety program (Work Safe)

    Training, Education, and Experience

    • 5+ years of operational leadership experience, including employee supervision in a seafood process and packaging environment or similar operation

    • Demonstrated knowledge of plant operations and procedures, ideally in seafood processing

    • Class 5 driver’s license

    • Training will be provided to support the responsibilities for this position

  • Recruitment efforts will be underway following Fisheries Resources Reconciliation Agreement (FRRA) implementation and when more processing opportunities are on Haida Gwaii

    Key Responsibilities

    • Cut, clean, trim, and package fish and/or seafood as per customer specifications

    • Process sport fish as per customer specifications

    • Follow Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) requirements and the plant Preventative Control Plan and standard operating procedures

    • Keep processing area clean and tidy

    • Maintain plant grounds

    • Clean equipment after use

    Training, Education, and Experience

    • Experience working in a fish plant is considered an asset
