HaiCo Scholarship Program
2023 Scholarship Details

The Haida Enterprise Corporation (HaiCo) has established a scholarship program for eligible Xaadáa | XaaydaGa Haida students with an annual value of up to $5,000 for 5 awards of $1,000 each. Scholarships will be awarded by June 9, 2023.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be pursuing full-time studies in an accredited institution leading to a certificate, diploma, undergraduate degree, or a masters or doctorate degree.
Applicants must be of Haida ancestry.
Applicants must demonstrate a contribution to Haida communities on Haida Gwaii and that following the completion of study will continue to contribute to the well-being of the Haida Nation.
Family members of HaiCo staff, employees, or board members or CHN/SHN officials or staff are eligible to apply and receive scholarships but will not receive any special considerations for that relationship. If there’s a conflict of interest on the scholarship review committee, the reviewer with the conflict of interest will need to declare a conflict and remove themselves from the selection process.
High school graduates have access to a separate HaiCo bursary program that are administered by each high school and shouldn’t apply to this scholarship program.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
A 500 word maximum statement demonstrating:
How your studies will support the HaiCo strategic plan goals and relate to specific business operations of HaiCo or to business management and capacity for Haida people on Haida Gwaii; OR
How your study discipline supports enhancement of Haida culture or Haida language on Haida Gwaii; OR
How applying your studies will contribute to the cultural, environmental, social, and economic dimensions of Haida Gwaii; AND
Expression of your commitment to return to Haida Gwaii.
Documentation of your expected costs of undertaking your education during the year (i.e. tuition costs, accommodation, travel, etc) and provide a breakdown of any funds you have received (i.e. scholarships, bursaries, financial support from Band Councils, or any other sources).
A letter or other document from the educational institution showing you have or will be enrolled in a course of study outlined above.
A copy of your most recent educational transcript.
A quote about your learning journey and where it will take you and what you want to do when you graduate.
A photo of yourself that we can share on social media if your application is successful.
