2022 Hospitality & Tourism Training Graduates

JENNIFER SMITH

Jennifer Smith is from the Ijow Yahgu 7laanaas Raven clan from Gaw Tlagée. Her parents are Winnie and Helmer Smith. 

“I am happy that I was able to complete the 12 weeks of training, it was quite the time commitment. I really enjoyed the first aid and foodsafe certification courses. I am excited that I completed the program, it worked out great. I was able to gain employment after my work placement as a baker.” 

TANISHA POLLARD

Tanisha Pollard is from the Tsiits Gitanee Clan from Gaw Tlagée. Her parents are Denise Thiessen and Willum Pollard, and her grandparents are Sandy Gagnon, Dennis Thiessen and Irene Pollard. 

“I am proud that I made it through the 12 week program. I really enjoyed the first aid and serving it right certification courses. Fraser Earl was a great instructor and supporter of the program. All of us from the program became close!” 

DEENA MANITOBENIS

Deena is from the Maaman Gitanee clan from Gaw Tlagée. Her mom is Caroline Collison and her Naanii was Sheila Collison.

“I was determined to finish this program as I was juggling another. It was a busy year for me and I am proud of myself for finishing them both off strong. I really do enjoy the hospitality and tourism industry of Haida Gwaii, we have a lot to offer. I am excited to see what other opportunities come my way. Háw’aa HaiCo.”

CAROL EDENSHAW

MIMXK’UUM GIBUU

Trishann Turner’s Nisga’a name is Mimxk’uum Gibuu (smiling wolf) and her clan is Gwaxsuu and Niis Liis Yan. Her parents are Danny Barton Sr and Justina Stewart and her grandparents are Mary and Willard Lincoln and Stella Adams. Trishann resides in Masset.

“I had an amazing time, and this crowd of ladies was great to learn with and laugh with every day. We all helped each other out when we needed it. I’ve enjoyed my time in the program. I’ve received my certificates again and they are all updated. I got new work experience out of it and also got hired as a waitress/bartender after I have completed my work placement. And I’m beyond excited to be working again!” 

ALYSSA LEWIS

Alyssa Lewis is Tsimshian from the Ganhada (Raven) Clan and Haida from Gaw Tlagée. Her parents are Daniel and Nicole Parnell. 

“I loved the group I was with, we all worked well together. I love how the Project Coordinator was there a lot of the time and how well organized she is. It was overall a good program to be in.”
